Borough Market, London

London Borough Market fruit

A fruit & veg stall at London's Borough Market

If you want to see an example of a flourishing market in Britain, this has to be one of the finest.  In the shadow of Southwark Cathedral, just off Borough High Street this market is a celebration of great food.  Cheeses, fruit, vegetables, home-made pies, flowers, olives, meat, currys, pastries, you name it!  The market varies in size and numbers of stalls but even in the winter months it’s always busy.  Everything looks so good, it would be very easy to spend an absolute fortune.  Next to the market, you’ll find the Globe pub which is the fictional home of Bridget Jones in the movies.  Nearest tube:  London Bridge.  This is an extract from our free London City Guide.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON BOROUGH MARKET IN LONDON

Borough Market is London’s oldest food market and it’s open Thursdays 11am to 5pm, Fridays 12pm to 6pm and Saturdays 8am to 5pm.   The market nestles under the railway arches and the Globe pub is alongside them.  The most recognisable part of the pub from the Bridget Jones movies is the door onto Bedale Street where Bridget is seen coming and going to her flat.  The street itself was used for the fight between Hugh Grant and Colin Firth in the first movie.
